Why ByteViewer

Built around a few things done well.

  • Full screen, nothing else

No address bar or tabs. The page fills the display and WebKit handles the notch and home indicator like Safari does.

  • Launch sites like apps

Every saved site gets a byteviewer:// link, a Shortcuts action and an Add to Home Screen helper. A widget shows up to eight sites.

  • Per-site switches

Desktop site, rotation lock, kiosk mode, Face ID or passcode lock, private mode, keep awake, and a switch for plain http.

  • Native and tiny

SwiftUI and WKWebView only, under a megabyte, no dependencies. Every release is built from a tag by GitHub Actions.

How it works

Up and running in four steps.

  1. 01

    Download the IPA

Grab ByteViewer-<version>.ipa from the latest GitHub release. The site links it directly.

  2. 02

    Install with ByteLoader

Sign and install it on your iPhone from Windows with a free Apple ID. AltStore and TrollStore work too.

  3. 03

    Add a site

Type a URL, save it, set it as default, and tune its display and privacy options.

  4. 04

Put it on the Home Screen

Use Add to Home Screen, the Shortcuts action or the widget, and the site opens full screen like an app.

FAQ

Questions people ask about ByteViewer.

Is ByteViewer on the App Store?+

No. Apple's guideline 4.2 can reject apps that are only a website wrapper, so it ships as an IPA on GitHub and is installed with a sideloading tool such as ByteLoader.

Which devices does it support?+

iPhone and iPad on iOS 16 or later. It runs as a native iPad app but requires full screen. There is no macOS version.

Is it open source?+

The full source is public on GitHub and releases are built from it. A licence file has not been added yet.

Does it collect data?+

No. There are no accounts, analytics or ads. Your site list stays on the device and the sites you open behave as they do in Safari.
